Story
Desiree T. Washington and Giovanna Spata formed Dual Eden in Los Angeles in 1997 as an electronic goth band; Lisa Arndt joined in 1998. Frustrated with a local scene still dominated by hair bands, the trio made their own records — the Ambiguity EP on cassette, then underside on CD.
To grow the sound and the live show, they joined forces with drummer David Gunderloy, guitarist Vreny Van Elslande, keyboardist Letitia Estanscu and producer David Adjian. The result was the self-titled 2002 album and a hybrid of programmed beats and live players that has since become standard practice in mainstream pop.
The band went on hiatus in 2003. Washington’s new project, Unimatrix Zero, carries the electronic thread forward.
